Slow-Cooker French Onion Soup
Classic French onion soup adapted for the slow cooker and topped with cheesy broiled French bread.
Ingredients
Soup
- 3 cups onions sliced, about 3 medium
- 3 tablespoons margarine or butter melted
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 4 14 1/2-ounce cans ready-to-serve beef broth
Cheesy Broiled French Bread
- 8 French bread slices 1 inch thick
- 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese shredded, 3 ounces
- 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese grated or shredded
Instructions
- In a 5- to 6 1/2-quart slow cooker, mix onions and melted margarine or butter.
- Cover and cook on High 30-35 minutes, until onions begin to brown slightly around the edges.
- Mix flour, Worcestershire sauce, sugar and pepper. Stir flour mixture and broth into onions. Cover and cook on Low 7-9 hours or High 3-4 hours, until onions are very tender.
- Prepare cheesy broiled French bread and place one slice on each bowl of soup. Serve immediately.
